And seeing as I love the books so much, I decided that I needed to do a painting! Yes, a Dr. Seuss painting. I looked on Pinterest forever (well, maybe a week) and found the perfect quote and decided on my painting!
This painting is actually going to be for my mom as she's a Elementary School Tracher and wanted something special for her classroom. Now let's just hope I don't mess it up!
I started with a canvas that was 12" x 24" so it was rectangular like the cats' hat in the book The Cat in the Hat.
Before I show you the pics though, if you want to do a painting like this I had to separate my painting into 7 areas. 5 big areas for the words of my quote, and two smaller areas just for fluidity and because it looked nice.
To start with, I drew my first line a 1/2" from the top. That's my first mini portion. The next 5 spaces were measured at 4.5". This leaves you with a space of about 1/2" at the bottom for another little strip. Here is my painting so you can see how I did it.
I also used green painters tape to section off my red areas so I wouldn't have to worry about painting straight lines. It worked great...except the two spots where I got a little too enthusiastic and got paint on the other side of the tape. A little white paint fixed that quick!
I also added in black lines across the red/white areas to separate and make them look better. If you look real close the lines actually don't go all the way across. They actually look kind of like this:
-------------- • • • ----------
(except the dashes are solid lines).
I saw this on a painting on Pinterest and really liked it so decided to do it on my painting! Thank you for your pin Pinterest!
After that, it was time to let it sit and dry for a while. I also needed to practice my hand lettering and spacing so I don't have to redo the whole painting. Here is my rough draft.
Happy Crafting and Painting!
