K2tog - Knit Two Together
Knit two together is probably the second stitch that I ever learned It is super simple. Just slip your left needle through two stitches and knit. For more information please visit my blog post on K2Tog. It goes in depth with pictures on how to do this simple stitch and is used in lots of patterns.
M1 - Make 1 Increase
M1, or a make 1 increase, is a way of increasing in your knitting. There are two different types of Make 1 increases, and you can read about it here on my blog. It is a very simple talent to have and makes a virtually invisible increase. You can see it either leaning left or right, and is a good talent to have as its used in many patterns. All you do is pick up the bar (read the blog with pictures) and then knit it. Just a quick tip: The direction in which you pick it up is the direction the stitch will face, so pick up the same way consistently so your work looks the same, or follow the pattern if it says left or right!
SSK - Slip Slip Knit
SSK, or Slip Slip Knit, is actually a very simple decrease. It is the opposite of the K2Tog, and leans the other direction.
It is simply done by slipping your first stitch knit wise (this means that you put your needle through as if to knit, but simply slip the stitch to your right hand needle without actually knitting it!). You do this twice so that you have slipped two stitches.
For the next step, you put your left hand needle into the front of the two stitches on your right needle. Then knit these two stitches together by just knitting then as normal, but make sure you have both stitches on the needle. At the end you should only have ONE stitch. This is the SSK decrease! For more help, read my blog post, SSK - Slip Slip Knit to help you figure it out!
